Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas! We did a little something different this year for a Christmas Card and wanted to share. Evan has changed so much over this year. It is hard to believe that he will three next month. Please sit back and enjoy our family in review.

All Dressed up and no place to go!
Evan seems to be improving from the flu bug. He had his last dose of Tylenol at noon today and took a 3 1/2 hour nap. He woke up with no fever and was still fever free at bedtime. Since he didn't have a fever we decided to put his Cowboy Outfit on him and let him Trick or Treat at a few houses. He was so cute. He would tell us he wanted to to go another one. We were only out about 20 minutes so fortunately it is a small supply of treats to be doled out.

The Flu has Struck
Yes, Evan has the flu. I got a call from daycare yesterday that he was running a fever. So I raced out of work to pick him up. He was so pitiful looking when I picked him up but amazingly he perked up a lot once he was home. I talked with the nurse and she said to see how he was on Friday. Well, last night he ran a fever of 104 degrees and Motrin would only get it down to about 101 degrees. So I called first thing this morning for an appointment. They did the nasal swab test and it came back positive. It doesn't differentiate between Seasonal and H1N1 and you treat both the same. Ironically, he was scheduled to get his flu shot tomorrow. Luckily, Kevin and I have had our flu shots. They gave him a prescription for Tamiflu so we will start that this evening since you have to give it every 12 hours. So the poor little guy will have to miss Halloween and trick or treating this year. I will probably still put his outfit on him if he feels like it and take a few pictures. Say a prayer for him to get well soon.

Thomas the Train
Kevin and I took Evan to see Thomas the Train on Friday (10/2/09) in Spencer. He had a blast riding Thomas the Train, jumping in the bouncer, playing with the train sets and seeing the electric trains in motion.

The Beach
We took our first family vacation this week. We took Evan to Myrtle Beach for a few days. He had a ball. We took him walking on the beach Sunday evening. Well, Evan kept running into the water and whenever the water receded he would start to fall down. He would just laugh and keep going back. By the time we got ready to go in, his clothes were soaked and covered in sand. The place we stayed also had a really nice children’s pool area with shooting water and dumping buckets. It was only 1 ft deep so that was nice. He was also a real trooper about wearing his ear plugs. He enjoyed going down the lazy river with Kevin. We also took him to Ripley’s aquarium so he enjoyed seeing all the fish and sharks.
This is one of my favorite pictures, watching the sun come up on Monday morning.

One last trip to the ocean and the pool

Summer Days
It is hard to believe that September is just around the corner. Although I have to admit, I am looking forward to some cooler weather.
Evan has discovered pockets and wants all of his shorts/pants to have them. I guess it will not be long until I start finding strange things in the pockets. Hopefully no frogs or lizards.
Evan is never far from his tractor. He drives it all over the yard.
Isn't this a heart winning smile?
Evan and Daddy riding the plasma car (another gift from Granna).
Evan--Come push Daddy, I am waiting.
TaDa!
Daddy finally got my swing put together. Another awesome purchase off Craigslist by Granna
Always on the run.

Recent Happenings
I guess we need to update on recent events. We entered the world of potty training with Evan over the July 4th Holiday. He is doing fairly well. He seems to do better for everyone else other than me. The mornings are generally a struggle. Evan is not a morning person even though he wakes up at the crack of dawn. He has had a few accidents but that is to be expected. We still have a long way to go but at least the process has started
We purchased Evan a little pool which he loves. He likes to splash around in the water and tell us he is swimming. Of course, you have to watch him or he will have all of his clothes off and be in his pool naked. Hopefully he isn’t going to grow up to be an exhibitionist.
Mom also watched him over the 4th so Kevin and I could go out to eat. She called to tell me he had been eating too much fast food (We really don’t go that often). She told Evan she would fix him some chicken nuggets. He told her “I go to Wendy’s.” Needless to say, Mom took him to Wendy’s. I think he nibbled the edges of all the chicken nuggets which meant he may have eaten a total of one.
His newest question is “What that noisy?” He really doesn’t like loud sounds. His language continues to expand daily. You have to watch what you say because he will repeat you. His teacher at daycare commented to me the other day how well he was talking. He constantly amazes me with the concepts he understands. Upstairs/Downstairs, Forward/Back it up, just to name a few.
Another funny is that he was trying to wipe Kevin’s face one day telling him he had grass on it. Actually, Kevin just needed to shave.
We celebrated Kevin’s 40th birthday on July 12th. Evan told Kevin “Happy Day Daddy”. We also set up Evan’s big boy bed that weekend. I didn’t realize how small his room was until we converted his crib to a full-size bed ( I have been telling Kevin we will have to clean out the bonus room of his stuff and make it Evan’s room when he gets older). He seems to be adjusting to his new bed and has actually been staying in it at night. It seems strange that this little person who almost always ended up in our bed halfway through the night since he has been home isn’t cuddled up against you or sleeping horizontally such that Kevin and I are hugging the edge of the bed. If he wakes up, I lay down with him until he goes back to sleep. Of course, I usually fall asleep too. The other night I got up after Evan went to sleep and the whole house was dark. I looked at the clock and it was 11pm. Kevin said he figured I had fallen asleep.
Evan enjoys spending time with his cousins. He follows Yancy (4 ½) around and copies everything she does which is really sweet. She really watches out for him. Of course I can’t get close to Adele (15 months) or he is right there pushing between us telling her “My Mommy”.
Evan also loves to see our neighbor’s daughter, Baby Sophie (7 months) and she likes to watch him. He always asks about her. You can generally find us in the evenings at the end of our driveways talking.

Time at the Park
Evan and I met my friend Sherri and her daughter Natalie (she will be 5 in July) at City Lake Park. Evan had a grand time playing on the playground, riding the train and the carousel. Natalie was so sweet and watched out for Evan and helped him get up the steps and down the slide. It was a great day.
